An extensive study of the chosen topic ‘Bilingualism – Living in Two Worlds’ aims to highlight
the overall theories of bilingualism along with multilingualism. The migration histories of Fijians
along with Indians are also discussed. The dissertation also focuses to examine the historical
background of Fiji’s two major vernacular languages, iTaukei and Hindi. Educators, linguists and
social workers have extensively reported that these two languages have been under substantial
pressure from various factors.
